On Saturday, November 17, 2012, at approximately 1:15 p.m., an unknown male armed with a suspicious device robbed the Chase Bank branch located at 1122 Palm Avenue in Imperial Beach, California.
At the time of the robbery, the robber entered the bank and approached the victim teller’s station. The robber was carrying a red Verizon shopping bag from which he pulled out a small, gray box with wires attached to the box. The robber made several statements to the teller and demanded cash. The teller provided a sum of money to the robber, who walked away and left the suspicious device on the teller counter.
The San Diego Sheriff’s Bomb/Arson Unit responded to the bank and rendered the device safe. The device was determined not to contain any explosive material. No injuries were reported.
The robber is described as follows:

- Sex: Male
- Age: Approximately 19 to 26 years old
- Height: Approximately 5’8” to 5’9” tall
- Weight: Approximately 160 to 175 pounds
- Complexion: Acne around mouth, cheeks, and nose
- Build: Medium
- Hair: Brown and white wavy hair
- Eyes: Possibly hazel-colored
- Clothing: White, long-sleeved, collared shirt and khaki-colored pants
- Weapon: Used a suspicious device that he indicated contained explosives
